NEW painting and new show - Hammered & Nailed in Hartford, CT

Tuesday afternoon, a friend told me about an open-submission art show this coming weekend -- and that the setup dates were Wednesday and Thursday! So I had to rush to get my arse in gear and get something ready for it. I had a partially-started canvas, and I decided I'd finish it up. I added the final touches to it sometime around noon on Wednesday, May 25th.

I think I finally figured out why I can fall asleep more easily during the day. It's the sound of birdsong at dawn. It makes the world feel like a safe, peaceful place, if only for a short time.

Relay For Life - Hopes & Wishes - Open til April 28

I was asked by artist Penumbra Carter to contribute some work to the Relay For Life Team 52's group build, Hopes & Wishes.

My contribution was a Bunnyken-themed refrigerator. The original one I made was a bit gruesome, so I toned it down for this project.

This is an installation built by Penumbra Carter in tribute to the theme of Team 52,"Hopes and Wishes". Included within this installation are contributions from the following artists:

Maya Paris contributed the Tutti Frutti Trees which are also found in the auction area.

Misprint Thursday contributed the Butterfly Kiss flowers which are also found in the auction area.

Nebulosus Severine contributed the Bunnyken Meat-Locker.

Why have I never learned how to comfort myself all that well?

Maybe I could learn to deal with the extreme overwhelming loneliness by keeping busy -- doing art, watching movies, listening to music, writing, reading, doing chores around the house; any number of these things and more. And sometimes I can force myself, keep myself distracted. But more often that not, I sit here paralyzed, impaled on my pain, and I torture myself with it, and I feel like I'm drowning and I can't do anything, I won't even fucking SLEEP, I just sit here tortured, until I literally cannot sit upright or stay conscious anymore.

Paintings sold

My paintings Divulsus and FUCK have been sold in the past couple of months.

Divulsus was sold via Hygienic Art's Salon des Independants show. (Buyer yet unknown at the time of this post.)

FUCK was purchased by my friend & fellow (brilliant) artist Dekka Raymaker.

A HUGE thanks to the buyers. The money will go toward purchasing a car, plus it frees up room for me to make new art! Hahaha.

On Saturday, January 29, 2011, I will once again be returning to Hygienic Art in New London for their annual Salon des Independants show (which I've mentioned in the past).

The Hygienic Art XXXII Salon des Independents will open on January 29 at 8pm at the Hygienic Art Galleries at 79 Bank Street in Downtown New London. Sign-in and hanging begins that day at 8am and runs to 6pm. The show is open to all artists, everyone is welcome. The exhibition is well-known for its diverse original art ranging from the sublime to the outrageous. We hope you'll join us by submitting a piece! See you at Hygienic!

This year, I'll be submitting my painting Divulsus (which has been collecting dust on my desk for awhile now) -- unless it sells on Etsy before this weekend, haha.

Flooded Fracture Friday - January 21, 2011

Last week I decided to go with an underwater theme for my semi-regular Fracture Friday event.

From the group notice I sent:

Your friend and humble DJ Nebulosus Severine returns to flood Fracture with an eclectic array of music. Don your swimmies, gills, flippers, and/or your Scuba gear and come splash around with me!

Still pondering this week's theme, but I'll (hopefully) post the event ahead of time. And if all else fails, I'll at least have pictures to show for it after the fact.

If you're in Second Life and you want to stay up-to-date on the events at Fracture, make sure to join the Fracture VIP group! Events are generally held every Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday nights, plus Saturday mornings/afternoons.

Fracture Fridays

Well, cutbacks have been made at work, and for the time being at least it seems like I have most Friday evenings free. Thus, I have decided to play a couple of DJ gigs in Second Life at Fracture ("Fracture is a club presenting eclectic aural adventures. We are a haven for an eccentric and lovely crowd of oddballs, queers, freethinkers, radical faeries, gender transgressors, lefties, and mad scientists. All species and orientations welcome.")

Come on down! I'll play some music, we'll talk, no big whoop."

I am going to compile any tips I earn to supplement a savings fund in order to make it to Fracturecon this year -- an annual summertime gathering of Fracture regulars. I've never traveled by myself before, nor have I ever flown. One of my goals this year, as a way of expanding my horizons and growing as a person, is to do both. I have spent a lot of my life in fear of experiencing many things, and I am tired of being confined by those self-imposed restrictions.

Earlier tonight (or, technically yesterday), I played a more themed set:

"Up here in the Northeast, we just survived Snow-mageddon 2011! Help me to commemorate this milestone by swinging by Fracture, tonight (Friday) beginning at 6 pm SLT - I'll be providing winter-themed music and a temporary art installation to match. Dubious Longfall will be taking the DJ reigns after me. Hope to see you there!!"

I'll continue to make posts about my radio shows here. Eventually I'll get around to posting my setlists and stuff too... maybe.

UWA People's Choice Awards

Voting for the People's Choice Awards for the December round of entries for the UWA 3D Open Art Challenge is going on now.

Curator's Choice Award (late post)

My artwork entitled Cold, desolate, and alone won the Curator's Choice Award for the November round of the UWA 3D Open Art Challenge. The announcement ceremony was on December 5th, but I am only just getting caught up with blog stuff now.

Jayjay Zifanwe: Now for the newly established Curator's Choice Award (L$2,500). I'll use FreeWee Ling's words to explain it: "As the curator of the UWA challenge I live and work with all of these works in a very intimate way over a period of time that is qualitatively different from the casual gallery visitor. The Curator's Choice award is not necessarily what I consider to be the best piece in the competition. Rather it is a piece or an artist that is not a prize winner, but that I think deserves a deeper look. The winner does complex work that is disturbing and dark. While Gothic subjects tend to be sensational and unappealing to me -- blood and gore for its own sake-- I find myself really engaged by the quality of both her imaginative vision and her renderings in virtual space that combine elements of her real and virtual work. This piece is an imaginative and courageous emotional statement. She is an intelligent and deeply thoughtful artist." And thus it is, that the very first Curator's Choice Award (L$2,500) goes to COLD, DESOLATE & ALONE by Nebulosus Severine.

Phase 2 of Financial Independence - Update

Slowly but surely, I am making progress toward Phase 2 of Financial Independence - Getting a cheap, drive-able car. I've been saving as much as I can, which usually only amounts to a few bucks a week after all my bills are paid and stuff.
