"tired of being sexy"

The name of electro/rock group Cansei de Ser Sexy (aka CSS) means "tired of being sexy" in Brazilian Portuguese.

I'm pretty fucking tired of being sexy, too. RL me is nowhere near as skinny as my avi was (even the new version of my shape is skinnier than I am). At first it was rather liberating to be thin in SL, but I am not feeling embodied in that form the way I used to be -- especially since I don't regard SL as being separate from RL. In RL I am fat and lumpy, and I'm sick of hating myself for it.

Perfect Beauty is cheap and overrated, especially in Second Life. I'm fucking bored of it. I don't look down upon other people for being imperfect, or for being fat, or whatever, so why can't I accept myself for being that way too?

Fuck Your God.

You know, this might be fairly obvious, but as an artist, I often react to things that cause me emotional distress by creating something.

I had been wandering the grid tonight in SL, not doing anything in particular, and I decided to roam around the cemetery that I helped build for Le Cimetiere. There is a church that Jinx bought as a pre-fab that she had me re-texture to look more "evil" & gothic to fit the theme. Naturally, I inverted the crucifix hanging over the entrance of the church (haha).

As I strolled through that area of the cemetery tonight, I noticed that someone (whose name I won't mention) built a white cross and covered the inverted crucifix with it. The description of the white cross reads:
God still shines in the dark.

This enraged me, disgusted me, turned my stomach.

I am not against the idea of God, or belief in God, necessarily. I am not a Satanist, nor am I an atheist. It's just this blind faith to a fucking religion that
I absolutely
motherfucking
loathe.

Having attended Catholic school for 7 years in my youth, and having been raised with that religion forced down my throat, doesn't do much to make me very sympathetic to Christianity. In fact, it makes me pretty goddamn annoyed and disgusted with it all.

I don't know if the person who placed the cross is one of the people who falls into the category of religious zealot/brainwashed peckerhead. It doesn't really matter. The placement of the cross, and its smug, self-righteous (at least, that's how I interpreted it) message was enough to just... piss me off.

So I placed my response directly over the white cross -- a black and red cross with an angry smoldering glow entitled,

FUCK YOUR GOD.

Fuck Your God (3)

I was so pissed off that I went to place a few rows of the crosses at my build at The Garden of NPIRL Delights, too. I'm sure someone will eventually cause a ruckus about it, but I don't fucking care - lick my art-tit, suck my art-hole.

Fuck Your God (1)

Fuck Your God (2)

FUCK your "God."

FUCK your "God" that you think favors you yet condemns everyone else;
FUCK your "God" that tells you to hate others who are different;
FUCK your "God" that robs you of your ability to think rationally, to think for yourself.

Fuck YOU and your "GOD."

What gives you the right?

I am not going to name and shame, but I visited a gallery today that is selling prints of Asian art for about L$250.

The art is NOT the work of the seller.

I noticed it when I went to inspect the frog picture, which I thought was rather cute. The description says:

Hoji, Frog
19th Century - Ink on Paper
For Sale: L$250

What gives you the right?

There are quite a few of these for sale, textures merely found and uploaded by the seller; and even though the artists are presumably long dead, who made this person the authorized re-seller?

Why charge that kind of money for what ANYONE can upload for a mere L$10?!
It's fucking outrageous. I know it's a fairly common practice in SL (stealing art from the web, uploading it, and re-selling it for a higher cost), but it... still... pisses... me... off.

(*The person in question also sells prints of their actual work on the upper level of this gallery, at around L$1800 a pop, which is MORE exploitation, since she can sell an INFINITE number of them -- but that's another topic entirely.)

Art I like lately - My Lonesome Cowboy

Although I have been aware of Takashi Murakami's work for awhile, I never really got into his stuff, even though I do appreciate the bright, manga-esque imagery he uses.

However, I have recently discovered this piece after reading about the recent Sotheby's auction, where it sold for $15.2 million, described as a "larger-than-life sculpture of a boy waving an ejaculate lasso":

Takashi Murakami, My Lonesome Cowboy

I am really, really drawn to this piece, haha, not just for the obvious sexual imagery. There's something about it that is iconic. I dunno. Often, my favorite pieces of art are ones I don't expect; they surprise me, pleasantly, in some way. My Lonesome Cowboy is a great example. I don't know why exactly, but I fucking love it.

'LookWhatYouMadeMeDoOdEmEdamUoyTahwKool' at Brooklyn Is Watching

Arahan and I attended the Brooklyn Is Watching podcast #8 (late April, can't remember the exact date) and joined in the conversation. I discussed my work, 'LookWhatYouMadeMeDoOdEmEdamUoyTahwKool' (which I had updated and kind of built an installation around it), and Arahan discussed a miniature version of his 'Sick Cat' installation.

You can read about it here:

Chasm

No matter how much you think you love someone or trust someone, know this:

Between you and everyone else on this planet there is a dark, infinite chasm that can never be crossed.

Art I like lately - "I'm Too Sad To Tell You"

Had nearly forgotten how much I loved this:

"I'm Too Sad To Tell You" by Bas Jan Ader

Some more info:

In a work titled I'm Too Sad To Tell You, Ader filmed himself drinking from a cup of tea, then collapsing into tears of grief. He then made postcards of pictures of himself crying, with the sole inscription "I'm Too Sad To Tell You," and mailed them out for everyone to witness. Even though the performance was a public display and confession through the mail, it remained private, a solitary person's unidentified grief.
