That reminds me of a conversation I had with my son earlier tonight before he went to bed, he wanted to know if it was Paul Gauguin or Oscar Wilde who said 'the ugly can be beautiful, the pretty never' so we looked it up and then talked about how in everything beautiful there is always something strange, and often strangely familiar too
I would add to McLaren that complacency is the enemy of art, what is compelling is the presence of some sort of tension - the more undefinable the better
